A police officer has pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing RM300,000 and a luxury handbag from a condominium last month.

According to a report by Berita Harian, the Bukit Jalil Police Station Chief, 45-year-old Inspector Azlan Sudin, made the plea as soon as the charges were presented before Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan at the KL Magistrate’s Court today (March 7).

He, along with another person who is still at large, was charged with stealing RM300,000 and a black Prada bag belonging to a 35-year-old woman from a condominium unit in Bukit Jalil, between 5:45pm and 6:20pm, on Friday (February 21).

The police officer could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail and a fine, under Section 380 and Section 34 of the Penal Code, and has been allowed bail at RM3,000 with one surety.

The court has set Wednesday (May 21) for the mention of the case.

The same officer also faces another charge

In a separate Magistrate’s Court, the same officer pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to arrest a man involved in an offence under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.

This allegedly took place in the lobby of the Bukit Jalil Police Station in Cheras, between 6:50pm and 7pm on Friday (February 21). Should he be found guilty, he can be sentenced to a maximum of 2 years in jail and a fine under Section 221(c) of the Penal Code.

“The accused is married and has 3 children, works as the Bukit Jalil Police Station Chief with an income of RM4,000. My client has served with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for 25 years and has no complaints against him during this time,”

“Before being remanded, the accused surrendered twice to assist in the investigations; we are requesting a low bail that is in line with his financial capabilities and is not burdensome,” his lawyer shared when bail was mentioned.

For this case, Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Halim allowed bail at RM3,000 with one surety and set Monday (May 19) for the mention.
