Year-end bonuses always excite employees and motivate them to perform better for the coming years, but imagine being able to decide how much you’re getting.

A company in China, Henan Mine Crane Co. Ltd decided to spice things up during the annual meeting which took place on January 25 by laying out RMB60 million (about RM36 million) in cash on the nearly 70-meter-long table.

Employees were free to scoop up as much as they could count within a limited time

And yes, they were allowed to keep the money.

The rules of the game are simple. Each team was divided into a team of 30, and they would have to choose 2 employees with the fastest hand to count the money they collected, reported Dahe Fortune Cube and The Paper.

The happy employees were “money counting machines” for the day, but it was worth the time and effort, given the amount that some of them managed to get. An employee successfully took home a bonus of RMB100,000 (about RM60,000) in just 15 minutes!

“This year, the company sold more than 128,000 cranes, with a net profit of 260 million yuan (about RM160 million). There is no pressure to pay out a year-end bonus of RMB100 million (about RM60 million),” said the president of Henan Mine.

Initially, RMB40 million (about RM24 million) in cash was prepared for this annual meeting. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the employees during the money-scooping game, the chairman generously added another RMB20 million (about RM12 million) on the spot!

The president also revealed that the profit was not the only reason that allowed the management to be generous – they also have no loans to worry about.

“We have no bank loans, no debts, and we sincerely want to make our employees’ lives better!”

Have you received your bonus? What do you think about suggesting this idea to your boss in which you could count your blessings bonus?
