At this point, everyone just stay home unless you realllyyy need to leave the house!

Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (JPBB) Coordinating Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said that parents are not encouraged to bring their children to shopping malls to make sure that Covid-19 SOPs are followed at all times. He added that his department still receivers reports of children violating SOPs.

“I have received reports that some parents take their children to the mall and let them to play and run around without wearing any masks.”

He added that parents need to take this issue seriously and only bring their children out if absolutely necessary, reported Astro Awani. This issue rose as shopping malls in Miri are still allowed to operate by limiting the number of customers to 50 percent based on the capacity of the premises.

The minister has discussed with the Miri City Council and shopping mall management who agreed on limiting the number of customers and also enforcing stricter rules for the mall patrons. For the past 14 days, Miri still recorded the second-highest number of positive cases in Sarawak after Sibu with 1,019 cases.

According to the WHO, children aged 5 years and under should not be required to wear masks. This is based on the safety and overall interest of the child and the capacity to appropriately use a mask with minimal assistance. However, children aged 6-11 are advised to wear masks when they’re out in public.

With the fluctuating number of cases, let’s all just STAY HOME and be safe!
