In an effort to provide the B40 community and other low-income groups with comfortable Baju Raya (traditional clothing for Hari Raya), a Malaysian Chinese couple in Kluang, Johor, is selling Baju Raya for as low as RM50 a set.
According to a report by BERNAMA, the couple, 32-year-old Chee Sur Wing and his wife, 31-year-old Rita Too Wan Er, have been selling Baju Raya for a second year in a row now after they received encouraging responses and managed to sell about 10,000 sets last year.
“Although sold at RM50 a set, we attach importance to quality, especially in the type of fabric and stitching, which we use satin and ‘Como Crepe’ fabrics, in addition to using good thread so that the clothing can last a long time,”
“After receiving encouraging responses last year, we opened for orders earlier this year, since January, and produced about 20,000 sets this year,” Chee shared.
Clothes for a family of 4 priced at RM180 only!
Using the brand ‘Pahlawanku’, the couple shared that their Baju Raya is only sold in Kluang and the nearby areas, as Chee’s intention is to help those in and near his hometown first.
Having gotten the idea to sell affordable Baju Raya from his Malay acquaintances, Chee and his wife have since been selling Baju Raya at his shop in Kluang and at the Aidilfitri bazaar there.
“This year, we are also selling clothing with a package price of RM180 for families with a set of clothes for an adult male and a boy, as well as for an adult female and a girl. Besides that, we are also selling various types of kurtas with prices starting from RM15,” Chee added.
