Malaysian men’s pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani earned the biggest title of their careers by winning the Japan Open Super 750 today.

The world No. 12 was in top form as they defeated South Korean world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae 21-19, 21-15 at Yokohama Arena.

With the victory, they became the first Malaysian men’s doubles winners in the tournament since Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng last accomplished the feat in 2002.

The pair have now amassed five World Tour titles, but this one is particularly significant as their previous victories were from Super 300 or lower-tier tournaments.

With their victory, the duo bagged the US$62,900 (RM275,226) prize at the Badminton World Tour Super 750 Series, the largest in their career so far.

Meanwhile, their success coincides with the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) recent decision to allow Sze Fei and Izzuddin to become professionals.

At its council meeting yesterday, BAM said it respects their decision and has agreed to release them effective Sept 1.

Congratulations to the duo!
