A Hong Kong national thought of making RM5,000 a month in KL by “cooking up a storm”, only to be arrested by the PDRM a month after his employment started.

A drug syndicate in Malaysia hired the Hong Kong man to refine the narcotics by cooking drugs, which would be supplied to local and foreign markets.

In a press conference by PDRM yesterday (January 17), the police revealed that the members of the syndicate had been arrested, and drugs worth RM8 million were seized from the lab which was in the disguise of a shophouse.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Control Department director said the raid was conducted on January 15 somewhere in Old Klang Road, KL, where the 27-year-old Hong Kong national was arrested.

He was carrying boxes and about 4.8 kg of cocaine and various drug-making tools were seized from him.

Another 104.9 kg of drug-making raw materials were also confiscated at another location in the industrial area under the guidance of the suspect.

“The police then led a team to the suspect’s home in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur at 7:40 pm that night and seized 3.2 kg of other raw materials for making drugs.”

More than 200 barrels of drug raw materials were also seized from a total of 3 raids, and PDRM estimated that these drugs can be used by 192,000 drug addicts.

Investigations revealed that the Hong Kong national holds a passport from his country and another one from Britain.

He rented a shophouse for RM2,500 in November last year to refine drugs and began actively refining drugs in early December, preparing to supply the cocaine to local and overseas drug markets.

The Hong Kong national, however, tested negative for drugs.

He had also entered Malaysia several times last year and most recently on January 3 as a tourist with his Hong Kong passport.

Police have remanded the suspect for seven days until the 22nd of this month to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
