While Malaysia continues to develop, the poverty issues, unfortunately, have yet to meet their end.

According to Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, there is one major contributor to the never-ending poverty in Malaysia – past leaders who were corrupted.

“The government changes all the time but the poverty has yet to end because the past leaders were corrupted.”

PMX, however, did not mention any names during his speech at the Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI), but he did challenge the unspecified leaders to do something.

“Hand over the country’s asset that you’ve kept overseas. The government is strict in this. Past or current leaders, we’ll take action against corrupted leaders.”

PMX also said that various financial aid programs are implemented by the government to help the poor. Unfortunately, the misuse of power has caused “leakages” in the funds.

“Imagine if RM22 billion is allocated for one year and we manage it well, the poverty issues would’ve been solved. Governments change, including Prime Ministers and other ministers but poverty is still an ongoing issue.”

During the speech, PMX was also baffled that despite the corruption, some of the past leaders were “protected” by supporters who chose to focus on their good deeds.

“Everyone has good deeds. For example, the head of the village has good deeds too, but does that grant him the right to steal from the donation box in the mosque?”

What else do you think could’ve contributed to the poverty issues in Malaysia? Should the past leaders (or current) be blamed for this matter?
