A Taiwanese content creator recently went missing after doing a live stream allegedly at the hostel of job scam victims in Cambodia. A day later, he resurfaced via another live stream on his Facebook page and revealed that he escaped the torture of the people who captured him.

“They took all my money, and electrocuted me. I’m not coming to Cambodia anymore,” he cried in the video.

He “resurfaced” with torn clothes and some specks of dirt on his face, saying that his movement was entirely controlled by the kidnappers. His hair was also partially shaved. The video ended after he told viewers that he was going to head back to his hotel and figure out what to do next.

He directed his own “movie?”

In a surprising turn of events, the content creator who escaped the kidnappers was reportedly arrested by the Cambodian police!

According to the Cambodian China Times, the police said the content creator’s video was merely “an act” to give the public a negative perception of Cambodia. In other words, the police claimed it was a self-directed movie during the live-stream, and another Taiwanese man was also arrested.

Both of them have been charged with defamation, according to local laws.

In the meantime, eagle-eyed netizens also spotted a military uniform in one of his live videos, where the shirt was seen hanging in the back passenger seat.

In case you can’t recall, his livestream ended with an unseen man in military pants picking up the phone before the screen cuts to black. Is this one of the clues to “decoding” if the video has always been a hoax?

It’s also worth mentioning that before their arrest, a Cambodian governor posted on his Facebook and shared images of the Taiwanese content creator, and urged the public to contact him if anyone had seen the man.

The Cambodian police also mentioned that they will be having a press conference soon to address the matter.

Do you think the livestream has always been a hoax, or the content creator was reporting the truth?
